house’s new sidekicks
October 4th, 2007
according to this article, it looks like while they were originally talking about 5 new characters (or so i remember), now they’re talking about 3: the kid from Harold and Kumar, Jennie from The Black Donnellys, and the guy who was the plastic surgeon.
i think that the other two people in the original list were the old dude who’s not really a doctor and the girl who played Mike Hannigan’s temporary girlfriend (“Precious”) in Friends. i wonder if they’re going to stick around, just in non-House-sidekick roles. i’d be really surprised if they let the old dude go, especially after the scene at the end of last week’s episode in which House made him his non-medical assistant. i think that the character could play a good foil to House (since he’s older and of a less caustic temperament) and will provide at least one tension-filled episode complete with a heated exchange between House and Cuddy, after Cuddy learns that House is accepting counsel from someone without an official medical degree (albeit extensive medical training).
roads? where we’re going, we don’t need roads.

don’t ask me how or why this came up now. i don’t have control over the timing of these things. just know that last night, i stumbled upon the website of the still-surviving DeLorean Motor Company. they’ve got parts, they’ve got collectibles, they’ve even got a magazine. and the best part?? try typing “flux” into the parts search box.
ever since that fateful day back in 1986 when i first saw Michael J Fox disappear in a flash of lightning, leaving behind only two burning tire tracks, i knew that i wanted a DeLorean DMC-12.
if i had money to burn, i’d definitely be purchasing one of these* — a couple of people are selling them (in great condition) on eBay. it’s just too bad that i live in New England, because the salt and sand could be hell for a stainless steel car like this.
the good news is that i can exercise restraint and avoid the impulse buy… because i don’t have $20,000 lying around.
* you might think i’m kidding. i’m not.

**WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS WEEK’S 24, DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK**
Ok, so it’s come to my attention that Dave Barry, the most hilarious columnist on the planet, keeps a running 24 blog during episodes.

This has become my new accompaniment to 24-watching. As usual, he says what we’re all thinking… most of the time. I certainly agree about the non-fantastic acting by Wayne Palmer. Least convincing president ever.
Oh, and as for the previews of next week’s episode, all I have to say is that FOX really dropped the ball by not getting Donald invited into this season’s cast.

A story on boston.com today about the top-10 worst songs of all time had me nodding along … until #3. This is one of my top-10 favorite songs of all time! I can see why some people might think the song was bad or cheezy, but the number 3 worst song of all time? Apparently, the authors based their ranking solely on the quality of the music videos — and I have to admit, this video is awful. Awesomely, awesomely awful.
where you at, dog?

Bored with the utter lack of engaging material on cable television the other night (remember that I don’t find reality TV engaging, and that just leaves Columbo reruns), I fired up On Demand and watched one of the latest Aqua Teen Hunger Foce episodes, “Boost Mobile”. Given that they not only used the name of the upstart mobile service but also their catchphrase, I’d think it a marketing move … but it must have come from the new “backhanded compliment” school of marketing. All I got out of it was that signing up for Boost Mobile means that my cell phone won’t shut up.
Anyhow, as a result of the episode, I can’t get the phrase “Where you at, dog?” out of my head. All it needs is a melody and it will join the ranks of George Constanza’s answering machine message.
